Nueva York: La concejal Carmen De La Rosa, en el marco del evento de distribución de bandejas por el Día de Acción de Gracias celebrado en el United Palace, resaltó el legado de Shirley Anita Chisholm, la primera mujer negra elegida para el Congreso de los Estados Unidos, como una inspiración para su gestión y los esfuerzos comunitarios en el Distrito 10 de Nueva York.
En un evento que reunió a líderes locales, voluntarios y familias, De La Rosa destacó la importancia de garantizar asistencia alimentaria para los más necesitados, una causa que también defendió Chisholm durante su trayectoria política.
Un Evento de Solidaridad y Gratitud
El evento, realizado el martes 26 de noviembre de 2024, en el United Palace, benefició a cerca de 1,000 familias del distrito con pavos, arroz, frijoles, sazones, azúcar, vegetales frescos y otros productos esenciales. La concejal expresó su agradecimiento a los voluntarios y socios comunitarios que hicieron posible esta jornada solidaria.
«Este año, no solo pudimos proporcionar pavos, sino también una variedad de alimentos esenciales para garantizar que nuestras familias tengan una mesa digna durante este tiempo especial. Esto es un esfuerzo de toda la comunidad, y agradezco a cada persona que dijo presente», declaró De La Rosa.
Compromiso con la Lucha contra la Inseguridad Alimentaria
De La Rosa subrayó que, aunque se han logrado avances, aún queda mucho por hacer para cerrar la brecha en el acceso a los alimentos y combatir la disparidad económica: «La inseguridad alimentaria golpea más fuerte durante los días festivos. Es por eso que organizamos este evento anualmente, para asegurarnos de que ninguna familia pase hambre durante una época que debería ser de unión y alegría.»
Carmen De La Rosa también reafirmó su compromiso de seguir trabajando en favor de las familias más vulnerables del Distrito 10: «Agradezco el respaldo de nuestros líderes electos, instituciones y equipos de trabajo. Esto demuestra lo que podemos lograr cuando nos unimos por el bienestar de nuestra comunidad.»
El Legado de Shirley Anita Chisholm como Guía

New York: Council Member Carmen De La Rosa, during the Thanksgiving meal distribution event held at the United Palace, highlighted the legacy of Shirley Anita Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress, as an inspiration for her leadership and community efforts in New York’s District 10.
At an event that brought together local leaders, volunteers, and families, De La Rosa emphasized the importance of ensuring food assistance for those in need, a cause that Chisholm also championed throughout her political career.
An Event of Solidarity and Gratitude
The event, held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the United Palace, benefited nearly 1,000 families in the district with turkeys, rice, beans, seasonings, sugar, fresh vegetables, and other essential items. The council member expressed her gratitude to the volunteers and community partners who made this day of solidarity possible.
«This year, we not only provided turkeys but also a variety of essential foods to ensure our families can have a dignified table during this special time. This is a community-wide effort, and I thank everyone who stepped up,» said De La Rosa.

De La Rosa underscored that, while progress has been made, much remains to be done to bridge the gap in food access and combat economic disparity:
«Food insecurity hits hardest during the holidays. That’s why we organize this event every year—to ensure no family goes hungry during a time meant for unity and joy.»
