New York – Acclaimed Dominican artist Yubo Fernández is set to captivate the Big Apple once again, this time with her striking artwork to be showcased at the renowned Chelsea Gallery, located at 545 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011, on April 10, 11, and 12, 2025.
This highly anticipated exhibition is part of a cultural initiative organized by the Dominican Heritage and Culture Society (DHCSFoundation), led by tireless cultural promoter Fresia Olivero Momani, as part of her ongoing efforts to highlight Dominican art and talent in the United States.
The DHCSFoundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich heritage and culture of the Dominican Republic. Through educational programs, exhibitions, festivals, and collaborations, the foundation aims to build bridges between the diaspora and its cultural roots, while showcasing Dominican talent to the world.
An Artist Who Paints from the Soul
“I’ve been painting since I was eight years old. I graduated in Advertising and studied at the art school of Altos de Chavón and in New York, where I also worked in television for a time. I’ve always been painting. My whole life has revolved around different artistic expressions,” shared Yubo Fernández while discussing her journey.
Although many know her for her acclaimed work as a film and theater actress — with awards in cities like Barcelona and Toronto — Yubo has emerged in recent years as a powerful voice in the visual arts world, developing a distinctive style that blends expressionism, abstract, and contemporary art with vibrant colors and social messages that awaken awareness.
Art That Goes Beyond the Canvas
Her work explores themes such as identity, spirituality, female empowerment, and emotional introspection. Her intuitive and profound style has earned her spots at several international art fairs.
In addition, Yubo has ventured into interior design, personalizing spaces inspired by her paintings and creating harmony between art and environment. She has strengthened this skill with studies at Altos de Chavón and Elle’s Midway Diploma, earning a degree from the Complutense University of Madrid.
The artist is also passionate about photography, especially sunsets, which is evident in the light sensitivity reflected in her pieces.
“For me, painting is intuitive—it’s allowing the soul to speak when words fall short. Every brushstroke is an emotion, a memory, a desire. Exhibiting in Chelsea, such an iconic space for contemporary art, is a chance to connect with the public from the most sincere part of my essence,” said the artist with excitement.
“Yubo is an ambassador of Dominican art. Her versatility, her preparation, and her sensitivity make her a complete artist. We are proud to have her represent our culture in such a prestigious gallery as Chelsea. I invite the entire community to be part of this event, which will mark a before and after in the projection of our artists in New York,” said Fresia Olivero Momani, director of DHCSFoundation.
The Dominican community and the general public are invited to experience this exhibition, which promises to be an unforgettable artistic journey, reaffirming Dominican talent and its impact on the international cultural scene.
